The Velvet Revolution

Serzh Sargsyan, the incumbent and the most powerful leader in Armenia was ruling the Republican party government since 1999.

In April 2018, the Prime Minister and former President Sargsyan was removed from the government through what culminated as the Velvet Revolution. He has ruling Armenia since 1999 as I mentioned before. The Protest Leader and Opposition Parliamentarian Nikol Pashinyan succeeded as the next Prime Minister of Armenia.

He inherited widespread Poverty, rising unemployment, corruption and so on.

On April 25th Pashinyan was arrested for a brief period of time and later released. The resignation of Sargsyan came in saying he was wrong and Pashinyan was right.By April 28,all the major opposition parties announced that they would support Pashinyan's Candidacy.Eventually during the second vote in the National Assembly, Pashinyan was declared as the Prime Minister of the Armenian Republic.

This marks the defeat of the Pro-Russian model of Governance and the victory of the Western Values of Democracy.

The methods of the Revolution were Demonstrations, sit-inns , Students protest, Online Activism , boycotts of the business, Civil Disobedience and General strikes.
